THE TASTE OF GINGER

Narrator Soneela Nankani takes listeners on the roller-coaster ride of emotions felt by Preeti when she returns to India for the first time since she was 7. Nankani portrays a brokenhearted young woman who has put a high-paying job before following the man she loves. This mistake becomes clear to her as the wife of her beloved brother hovers between life and death. Nankani handles flashbacks gracefully, uses several accents to define characters, and makes Indian traditions and settings sparkle. Themes of racism, immigration, assimilation, generational divides, and the bonds of culture and family are well woven into the story and never distract from the narrative of a young woman who is searching for her identity.
