It's almost impossible to describe Grace Lavery's genre-defying blend of memoir, parody, academic analysis, and literary criticism. It's definitely not for everyone, but fans of weird, queer nonfiction who are up for a challenge will find much to appreciate. Lavery's narration oscillates between sly humor, fraught self-analysis, and academic detachment. Daniel Lavery often pops in as himself, delivering his own dialogue, which gives the audiobook an intimacy that borders on the uncomfortable. It's a little like overhearing private moments between a married couple. Marc Vietor delivers various texts-within-the-text in a crisp British accent. Listeners who approach this book with an open mind, expecting to be at least a little confused, will enjoy it. L.S. © AudioFile 2022, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2022]
