THE JOURNEY OF HUMANITY The Origins of Wealth and Inequality

by | Read by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith

History • 8.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2022

Kobna Holdbrook-Smith's deep, English-accented voice is a huge asset to this audiobook about complicated subjects. Galor explores both history and economics as he considers two overarching mysteries in his academic work: Why did the world's living standards increase so much in the past 200 years? And why are there such enormous gaps between the wealth levels of different nations? His answers go back about 300,000 years or so. Holdbrook-Smith's performance is accessible, even in places where the prose is more difficult or technical. Galor covers a lot of ground and offers much for listeners to think and argue about. For most people, this won't be a beach listen, but Holdbrook-Smith's even-keeled performance and pleasing voice make it a little less daunting.
