Worlds collide most pleasingly in this performance of Austen's classic. Fans of "Bridgerton's" Lady Danbury will no doubt recognize Andoh's distinctive and beautiful voice as she regales listeners with the Bennet family intrigue. Andoh's effervescent style suits the tone of the story, and her enthusiasm for enacting character voices is evident at every turn: Both the silly and the serious are easy to identify. Drawbacks of this production are few and relatively minor: The transitions between chapters can seem abrupt, and some dialogue veers into Dickensian extremes. Overall, though, there is a modern air to this production that brings an old story into contemporary times. Andoh's skill may well introduce an entirely new audience to this timeless favorite, and even Lady Whistledown couldn't criticize that. L.B.F. © AudioFile 2022, Portland, Maine [Published: JUNE 2022]
