Narrator Joe Jameson appealingly inhabits protagonist Luc's snarky, sardonic (and also quite smitten) point of view. In BOYFRIEND MATERIAL, Luc and Oliver went from being fake boyfriends to real ones; in this sequel, they've been happily together for two years, and attending a series of weddings gives them, or at least Luc, an idea. Characters are plentiful and dialogue is abundant, and when the text identifies who's speaking, it's redundant; we already know, thanks to Jameson's clear differentiations and seemingly endless variety of British (and one French) accents. Author Hall deftly balances the many laugh-out-loud funny moments with weighty questions about identity, family, expectations, and what comes next. An unexpected speech from serious, upright Oliver is a stand-out moment. The engaging narration and story sweep listeners along. J.M.D. © AudioFile 2022, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2022]
