While narrator Rona Morison masterfully portrays the numerous male and female characters, differentiating them with accents, pace, and pitch, the complexity of the plot makes this audiobook a challenging listen. Anna and Fin, mystery-solving podcasters, search for Lisa Lee, a young, troubled livestreamer who has disappeared. Past podcasts and those currently being recorded are interspersed. While Morison does most of the narration, Jonathan Keeble comes in to portray the mysterious Bram van Wyk for the podcast segments. Keeble's deep voice and Afrikaner accent are well matched for Bram. However, Morison's performance of Bram throughout the majority of the book is so different that it's confusing. There are moments of wonderful descriptive writing that are expertly delivered, but listeners may find they have to work hard to keep up. E.Q. © AudioFile 2022, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2022]
