Elisabeth Rodgers narrates a psychological horror novel that finds a young woman confronting literal and metaphorical ghosts. Erin has yet to muster up the courage to say no to her tempestuous relationship with her college boyfriend, Silas. When he overdoses, he discovers he had been taking a drug that made it possible to see the dead. Rodgers flits between the snarky banter Erin's fond of and the story's gore and horror. The performance is slow and ominous as it layers in scares and meditations on addiction. Rodgers provides characters with distinctive voices, using Southern accents and tonal shifts. The story itself is unsettling, and Rodgers's performance is compelling. J.M.M. © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2023]
