Australian Ash Barty shocked the tennis world when she retired last year at age 25 while ranked Number 1 in the world. Miranda Tapsell, also from Australia, does an excellent job of channeling Barty's emotions: homesickness while playing in Europe as a teenager, despair at being injured, determination in the face of a big match, and clarity when it was time to retire. Barty is famously down-to-earth, and Tapsell's voice is infused with warmth and authenticity. Barty also explores her Indigenous heritage and works to emulate Evonne Goolagong's quiet leadership style. Tennis fans will notice the mispronunciation of several well-known and lesser-known professional players from around the world. It's a shame because Tapsell really nails the emotional experience.
