Narrator Jessica Almasy takes listeners to the quirky small town of Papillon, Louisiana, where lawyer Jayna Cardet has returned after a bitter divorce. Soon, she squares off in court against Quaid Havery, the only other lawyer in town, on a case involving an octogenarian who is being tried for bathing nude in a hot tub. Almasy brings out Papillon's small-town feel and its residents--from the judge hearing the case to Quaid's snobby mother. As Almasy provides a lively narration of Jayna and Quaid's verbal sparring, Almasy's Cajun intonation adds a pleasant dynamic to the listening experience. The author's humor and Almasy's smooth style pair well. S.B. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine [Published: APRIL 2023]
