Narrator Deepa Samuel's pacing and tonal variety are perfect in this contemplative story balanced with levity. Serena is doing exactly what her late mother expected of her. She leads a sensible life and has a job at a prestigious accounting firm. But after a quick, flirtatious encounter with a man named Julian at Mardi Gras while in New Orleans for a bachelorette party, Serena begins to question everything. Like Serena, Julian is from Seattle, but they don't get a chance to exchange their contact information before parting. Once home, Serena makes big life changes while searching for Julian. Is it crazy to think that Julian might also be searching for her? Samuel's faux cheery tone deftly portrays sarcasm, and a screechy-voiced maid of honor fits the character's personality.
