In the English village of Ashton Mead, kindhearted Emily Wilton and her puppy, Poppy, find a dead woman in the river. Narrator Rebecca Norfolk takes up this cozy mystery with cheerful tones and plenty of humor. Rumors fly that Emily's new neighbor, Richard, killed his wife-- or maybe it was his handsome son, Adam. Norfolk uses smooth tones for the concerned former Londoner Emily, whose voice is contrasted with the hard accents of the locals. Norfolk captures Emily's trepidation as she and Poppy follow tangled clues and false information to London, where they get into lots of trouble. Norfolk adds tension and grit to the precarious situation soon Emily finds herself in, but Poppy's mad barking saves the day. M.B.K. © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine [Published: DECEMBER 2023]
