CALYPSO'S GUEST A Short Story

by | Read by Robert Petkoff

Science Fiction • 53 mins. • Unabridged • © 2023

Narrator Robert Petkoff combines a natural ease and a classical timbre to deliver this spare, poetic novella. It's about a man cursed with immortality who is exiled to a distant planet with only robots and agricultural equipment as his companions. He waits and waits. Finally, after 200 years, a spaceship crashes on the barren world with one survivor, who the man hopes might become his soulmate. Petkoff is at his best giving voice to the men's growing friendship even as the stranded survivor desperately dreams of returning home. At a compact 53 minutes, this "space fable," which combines science fiction and Homeric traditions, is a refreshing change from the more common thousand-page sci-fi series. We hope to hear many more.
