IN THE FAMILY WAY John Pickett, Book 12

Narrator Joel Froomkin brings comedic and contrasting touches to his narration of this light mystery-romance set in Regency England. John Pickett, a former law enforcement officer turned private investigator, and his wife, Julia, are nervously expecting a new baby. Then, Pickett's no-good father returns from serving a prison sentence in Australia--only to be murdered. There is also a kidnapping and a new grandfather for Pickett, making nice subplots. The exaggerated accent and emphasis Froomkin employs in the narrative part of the audiobook reflect its humor. Happily, Froomkin also has the admirable ability to switch seamlessly into more realistic and well-defined character voices, male and female.
