Christina Moore gives an expert performance of this third captivating episode featuring Italian police superintendent Teresa Battaglia. Teresa is drawn out of semi-retirement to interview imprisoned serial killer Giacomo Mainardi. Secretly dealing with an Alzheimer's diagnosis, Teresa fears her policing days are over. Her meeting with Mainardi releases a flood of memories, which flash back 27 years to his horrific crimes and to Teresa's marriage to a violently abusive man. Moore enhances Teresa's complex personality, subtly providing layers of insight. Her Italian pronunciations are spot-on, while her range of voices offers easily identifiable characters. As Teresa struggles with an adversarial relationship with her boss, her supportive partner, Massimo Marini, works to keep her focused. A wonderfully well-written whodunit with a stellar performance by Moore. S.J.H. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award © AudioFile 2024, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2024]
