RESOLUTION

Mina’s final installment in her trilogy is crackling with humor, tragedy, and a sense of ordinary life. Maureen O’Donnell, who lives in Glasgow, is both endearing and frustrating. She’s a serious alcoholic who was sexually abused by her father, and now she is dreadfully worried about his new granddaughter. Narrator Katy Anderson splendidly presents Maureen, her friends, family, coworkers, and the underdogs of the world whom she is determined to protect. Anderson’s warm humor is vital to balance the fear and sorrow encountered by these struggling people. As the complex story spirals to its conclusion, Anderson sings beautifully and makes a great show of emotion with outpoured breath, sorrowful sniffing, and joyous laughter.
