THE HISTORY OF LOVE

The title refers to a book within this book, a strange and marvelous novel written long ago by a heartbroken Leo Gursky, who lost his first and only love, Alma, when she fled Poland for America before WWII. Leo is now an old man in New York City, unaware that his novel has also survived the war and changed lives. This dazzling story is performed by an all-star quartet, with George Guidall as smart, grouchy Leo, who is funny despite being the loneliest man in the world; splendid Barbara Caruso reading the mature women; and Julia Gibson and Andy Flanagan handling the younger voices. Star turns for all four, but does the publisher print their names anywhere on the packaging? Dream on. B.G.
