IN THE TIME OF THE BUTTERFLIES

by | Read by Various Readers

Fiction • 13.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1994

Based on a true story, this fictional account examines the lives of the Mirabel sisters, LAS MARIPOSAS (The Butterflies), murdered because they were at the vanguard of the revolution to oust Dominican dictator Trujillo. Patria, Dedé, Minerva, and Maté tell their lives in small ordinary details, from their convent-educated girlhoods to their awakening to the brutality of the Trujillo regime. Four narrators give each sister a poignant, believable voice. Unfortunately, Recorded Books neglects to credit the narrators by name on the packaging, making it impossible to identify which actor is portraying which sister. However, all the performances ring true, and the tragic story of these women, beautifully crafted by Alvarez, leaves an indelible impression.
