CHARLOTTE ILLES IS NOT A TEACHER Not a Detective, Book 2

The second book in Katie Siegel's Not a Detective series finds Charlotte Illes, now 10 years out of middle school, trying to move beyond her past as a kid detective. This becomes complicated when, as a substitute teacher, she returns to Frenchem Middle School, where her best friend, Lucy, also teaches. Lucy presents Katie with a mystery to solve. Chapters begin with a short scene from Charlotte's middle school adventures before bringing us up to the present time. Sadly, Siegel's narration lacks enthusiasm. Characters speak, and the narrative segments are delivered in the same rushed, detached voice, which fails to bring the story to life.
