Diggs's novel depicts the town of Hercsville, Long Island, where everyone is rich, black, and beautiful. Four women with dark and interesting pasts are the main characters. Each chapter presents the perspective of a single character, so this ensemble never gets to work together. The narrators are impressive--within every chapter each portrays a broad range of characters. Listeners are regaled with the authentic sounding voices of men, women, teenagers, and dowagers, who are rich or poor, angrily homicidal or coolly hip, vegan or fast-food burger eaters. This audiobook provides a convincing entrée to the complex world of these wealthy contemporary African-Americans. P.R. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine [Published: AUGUST 2008]
