INDIAN BOYHOOD

This unusual autobiography follows Hakadah, or Charles Eastman, as he became known, through the first 15 years of his Sioux life at the end of the nineteenth century. It's a treasure-trove of Indian life and lore, demythologized, for either the youthful or adult reader. Jim Killavey's slow, mechanical reading is irritating but doesn't spoil Eastman's fascinating account. This is a valuable addition to any study of Native Americans.
