THE SKY IS EVERYWHERE

Seventeen-year-old Lennie has always lurked in the shadows. She's happy playing music and reading WUTHERING HEIGHTS while her older sister, Bailey, shines on stage and off. When Bailey dies suddenly, Lennie thinks she should be grieving but instead finds herself torn between two boyfriends and a profusion of inappropriate responses. Julia Whelan's myriad tones and perfect pacing portray Lennie's rollercoaster feelings. Whelan plays up Lennie's dramatic reactions and contrasts them with her quieter thoughts. Overall, Whelan's narration captures a complex young woman who is following a unique and difficult path as she struggles with loss and makes peace with her conflicts. S.W.
