Pete Larkin delivers a competent, if unimaginative, reading of Malloch’s discussion of a Christian version of social capital. Larkin does his best with dense material that analyses biblical texts as well as the works of theologians such as John Calvin and philosophers dating back to Aristotle. At times slightly robotic or tinny sounding, this volume reflects the tones of the business or self-help genre rather than the softer ones often used in faith-themed projects. For those who are not engaged in the subject matter, Larkin’s reading will likely fail to inspire new interest as the pacing becomes somewhat monotonous as the chapters continue.
