Brighton, on the south coast of England, in the 1950s, is the setting for this full-cast performance of six Inspector Steine stories. The warm, nostalgic dramatization conjures up a delightful world of amusingly incompetent police, larger-than-life criminals, and improbable crimes. Michael Stevens gives a sterling performance as Inspector Steine, and Jan Ravens creates a wonderful Mrs. Groynes, charwoman and unlikely master criminal. Each of the six 30-minute stories follows Inspector Steine and his colleagues as they work to solve an independent case. The witty writing is enhanced by the excellent dramatization, with sound effects and occasional music helping to transport listeners back to a bygone era.
