After a tough and continually uprooted childhood in the city, Theresa Weir found love with a young farmer in the country. But so many tragedies occurred there over the years that his land and apple orchards seemed to be cursed. Narrator Ellen Archer brings to life this story of young love, difficult families, and the effect of pesticides on our food and the people who grow it. Although this may seem like too many topics to cover in such a slight work, Weir has woven the strands of her life together beautifully, and Archer’s narration provides the perfect amount of emotion to create a heartbreaking memoir.
