TURTLE ISLAND

In this live recording Gary Snyder reads twelve poems, and the Paul Winter Consort improvises music. It is not an enhancement of Snyder's writing, but an entirely new creation. The performance is the listening and response between Snyder and the Winter Consort, with the live audience reacting to their alternating spoken and musical paragraphs. Both the poetry and music are at times triumphant, eerie, playful and peaceful. The recording lends itself to relistening to absorb detail and meaning.
