Narrator Graham Roberts portrays the police investigators in McDermid’s intense procedural, the first in the author’s Dr. Tony Hill/Carol Jordan series. Roberts also dramatizes the novel’s disturbing serial killer and his sexually motivated murders. While dealing with his own sexual problems, psychologist Tony Hill is called in by police to help profile and catch the murderer, who is operating within the gay community. Dr. Hill’s burgeoning friendship with police investigator Carol Jordan is an oasis in the dark morass of the novel’s graphic crimes.
