College reporter Mike Mavic arrives in Steepleton, New Jersey, to ascertain if the body of Christopher Creed has been discovered at last. He interviews Chris’s acquaintances, hoping to piece together the truth behind Chris’s mysterious disappearance. Nick Cordero uses a straightforward narration style to mimic Mike’s no-nonsense attitude. The single-voiced narration allows listeners to absorb the story entirely from Mike’s viewpoint. In group dialogue, however, it’s sometimes difficult to differentiate the characters. Listeners should be familiar with Plum-Ucci’s first book in order to follow this complex sequel. Cordero’s consistent narration helps enhance a story composed almost entirely of interviews, with little action. When Mike reveals himself as an unreliable narrator, Cordero’s choices take on new meaning. C.A. © AudioFile 2012, Portland, Maine [Published: JUNE 2012]
