McGrath includes many words from the Inuit language, and Reading pronounces them with grace and fearlessness, adding to the authenticity of the story. Edie is in Alaska supporting her ex-husband’s bid to win the Iditarod. But she spends most of her time with Derek Palliser, a part-Inuit and part- Cree police sergeant. Together, they’re investigating the corrupt politics, greed, sex trafficking, and religious intolerance of the area.
