A sensational paranormal romance gets a worthy narrator in Justine Eyre, who is an expert at conveying the smoldering tension that infuses the story. When her mother decides to seek a new beginning by moving from Florida to West Virginia, 17-year-old Katy Swartz is convinced she'll stagnate in the small town. However, when she meets her infuriating and irresistible neighbor, Daemon Black, Katy realizes that nothing in this new place is what she thought, especially Daemon. Though Eyre's voice sounds somewhat too mature for the teenaged narrator, her delivery is superb, and her characterizations are spot-on. With her distinctive sultry tone, listeners will be spellbound and, at the end, eager for the next installment. B.E.K. © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine [Published: AUGUST 2013]
