This Golden Age offering from Galaxy Press brings together three military adventure tales, all centered around the U.S. Marines’ little remembered involvement in Nicaragua, 1912-1933. R.F. Daley narrates with his usual polished assurance as the producers hit new heights with well-mixed sounds of gunfire, shouts, and biplanes flying overhead, all supporting the dialogue of the cast admirably. In this work L. Ron Hubbard set out to present a fictional look at the life of a foot soldier. Both author and cast find nobility, humor, and heroism in these characters, especially in soft-spoken, Georgia-accented Sergeant E.Z. Gollengame in the second story, “He Walked to War.” Old-style pulp adventure, a little theater, and a little history make for some fine listening.
