Ten years after his epic overland journey from Cairo to Cape Town, veteran travel writer Paul Theroux takes to the road again as he is just about to turn 70, traversing the route from South Africa to Angola in what he states will be his final journey of this type. John McDonough's mature voice is fitting for the world-weary tone communicated by Theroux in his book. McDonough expressively conveys Theroux's critical and ultimately disillusioned take on the state of affairs in this region, particularly in Angola. While his tone is appropriate, the pacing of his narration tends to be slow, which, while mirroring the frustratingly slow pace of Theroux's travel in Africa, is also a bit frustrating for the listener.
