STIGMATA

Borrowing a concept from religious mysticism, Perry writes of Lizzie, a young woman who begins to manifest stigmata that reveal the chains of slavery. In addition, her belief that she has actual memories of events of her family history that long predate her causes her parents to fear for her sanity and safety. Mary Peiffer reads with conviction. She voices the fear and incredulity of Lizzie's family and the condescension of her doctors.
