In this work of fiction, Michael Hastings tells the story of Michael Hastings, a hard-working intern at a major news magazine fighting for its survival. Narrator Ramiz Monsef makes the most of the novel’s diverse characters. As the driven Hastings works to secure a full-time position, he crosses paths with foreign correspondent A.E. Peoria, just returned from Chad, who, unlike the magazine’s top editors, is more interested in truth than marketing. Monsef’s voices are creative and consistent. He crafts an educated Indian lilt for a senior editor, a slight Southern drawl for a high-profile writer, and a crisp British accent for a blogger.
