ASKING FOR THE MOON

Police detective Peter Pascoe and his curmudgeonly boss/mentor, Andy Dalziel (pronounced Dai-el), live. Reginald Hill brings them to life on paper, and Graham Roberts brings them to life on tape in a recording so completely satisfactory that it’s hard to imagine anyone else doing it any other way. With the firm authority of a master actor, Roberts gets every detail just right, leaving the listener free to enjoy. The four short stories here include an account of the trying circumstances under which Pascoe and Dalziel first met. There’s also a tale from the last days of their complex relationship, when Dalziel is called out of retirement to help solve the first murder on the moon.
