The universe of audiobooks is a vast one, and at AudioFile we take our mission of evaluating and recommending them seriously. That's why we're especially glad every December to celebrate the year's truly stellar performances and share them with our readers. You'll find AudioFile's picks for the Best Audiobooks of 2024 on our Best Audiobooks page.
It’s a joy and a privilege each year to take a look back at the listening our reviewers have done over the past twelve months and select the best audiobooks. In order to winnow down our choices, Managing Editor Jenn Dowell and I have a conversation, the essence of which boils down to, why is this special and unique as a listening experience? You can listen to me and Jo Reed talk a bit more about this year's selections on a special episode of the Behind the Mic podcast.
Our new category this year is Multi-Voice, to shine a spotlight on the productions that make the most of the audio format by employing casts and ensembles of talented narrators as well as sound effects, music, archival audio, and more. In Multi-Voice and eight other categories, we’re honoring 54 audiobooks. You’ll find stunning performances, whether performed by one voice or many, and we hope you’ll discover some wonderful new listening.
Want to hear more from these voices? Don’t miss our brand-new podcast interviews with the narrators of some of this year’s best audiobooks. We’ll also have some special episodes in December all about audiobook gifts, so tune in! You can always find our podcast at audiofilemagazine.com/podcast, or search for “Behind the Mic” wherever you like to listen to podcasts.
We're sending kudos and appreciation to all of the authors, narrators, producers, and publishers who work so hard to make these outstanding listening experiences possible—and of course, to our team of reviewers, who listen to and review thousands of audiobooks each year.
