Independent bookstores have a special place in my heart. When I travel, finding a local bookstore gem is an extra treat. These days I mostly pack ebooks and audiobooks on my phone, but there’s still a great way to support your local bookseller: Libro.fm Audiobooks. Looking at the new Libro Indies Bestseller list, I see a lot to recommend. We have great reviews, of course, and our special AudioFile media extras—podcasts and narrator videos to really draw you into these audiobooks.
Starting with nonfiction: EDUCATED by Tara Westover and narrated by Julia Whelan continues to get a lot of attention. Julia just won two 2019 Audie Awards with her performance—Best Female Narrator and Best Autobiography/ Memoir. We have a terrific interview with Julia just published on our podcast.
INHERITANCE by Dani Shapiro and THE LIBRARY BOOK by Susan Orlean were also topics of our short daily podcast—we encourage you to listen, because in just 4 minutes, you get a great audiobook recommendation. Brené Brown’s DARE TO LEAD is on Libro’s list this month, and she’s included in AudioFile’s feature “Outspoken Women.” Our Soundcloud playlist lets you hear Brown along with Jazz Jennings, Michelle Obama, Cecile Richards, Malala Yousafzai, and more.
Check out some of these great fiction audiobooks from the list: BLACK LEOPARD, RED WOLF by Marlon James is perfectly suited to audio. Narrator Dion Graham just picked up a new Earphones Award for his immersive performance of this African-inspired fantasy. And Delia Owens’s WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING has been pegged at the top of the listening chart for months. We have a great video with narrator Cassandra Campbell, who will encourage you to check out her performance—which also won an Earphones Award.
Tayari Jones’s AN AMERICAN MARRIAGE and David Sedaris’s CALYPSO were both finalists for Audiobook of the Year at the 2019 Audies, but the winner was Tomi Adeyemi’s CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE. All of these titles offer such great listening.
The narrator of winner CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE is Bahni Turpin. Listeners can also hear her in Angie Thomas’s audiobooks THE HATE U GIVE and ON THE COME UP—the latter is a Libro bestseller this month. Here’s our recent podcast about ON THE COME UP.
Remember, our daily Behind the Mic podcast is just 4 minutes . . . so while you’re browsing in your favorite bookstore, you can pick up a quick recommendation and get your Libro.fm audiobook immediately. Buying Libro.fm audiobooks supports your local booksellers!
