Lorraine Toussaint says, "I'm fairly new to audio. I've usually been too busy to really actively pursue it." Her career in television and film has earned her four NAACP Image Award nominations. Then, about a year and a half ago, "a few things [in audio] started coming my way. I narrated a six-hour miniseries for PBS ["This Far by Faith']." Then she recorded the book the miniseries was based on. "That's when I realized that audio was a wonderful, creative way of expressing myself." Her recent recording of Walter Mosley's FORTUNATE SON is an Earphones Award winner. Lorraine listens to audiobooks whenever she can, and was especially moved by Jenna Lamia's performance in THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES . "It was really so lovely. I've recommended the audio to many people." She also sees the effects of the spoken word on her young daughter. "It's given me an extraordinary appreciation of the magical place between words leaving a person's mouth and entering a person's ear. There's an alchemy that happens there that's thrilling." While there are no audio projects in her immediate future, Lorraine says she's "looking forward to doing a lot more of them."
