Narrator Graeme Malcolm smartly deliver a laugh-out-loud collection of wise, witty, and weird advice. Malcolm uses a broadcaster-style voice to deliver the actual advice, which is followed by Archibald's quirky one-liner commentaries. The material is culled from centuries-old texts on topics such as etiquette, cooking, hangover remedies, and eighteenth-century bedbug advice. The entertaining guidance on seduction, which includes such wisdom as as when it's okay to pass gas, further aided by Archibald's snarky comments, prompts bursts of laughter. How-to snippets from ages past, some quite ludicrous, like sprinkling beds with gunpowder and letting it smolder to kill bed bugs, contrast sharply with modern scientific data. The amusing examples and laugh-out-loud commentary make this an entertaining choice for anyone. G.D.W. © AudioFile 2015, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPTEMBER 2015]
