Ashford McNab's quiet, deliberate pacing and gifted facility with accents makes listening to Book 8 in the Maiden Lane series very enjoyable. Lady Phoebe Batten, the sister of a powerful duke, is determined to be independent, despite her near blindness. Captain Trevillion, ex-dragoon who was badly wounded in service, is hired to be her bodyguard. Both view the world differently, yet, despite their differences in station, they have a growing attraction that has nothing to do with looks or titles. McNab masterfully gives just the right voice and accent to each of the characters--whether aristocrat, servant, British, or other. She also changes the pacing of her narration when appropriate, adding to the excitement of the developing romance. A.C.P. © AudioFile 2015, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPTEMBER 2015]
