BURN FACTOR

Quinn Barry is an FBI computer programmer whose new search engine turns up an anomaly, five connected crimes, based on DNA evidence. When she tries to determine if the information is correct, Quinn becomes entangled in a crime spree involving a psychopathic killer, rogue FBI agents, and vicious, cold-blooded murders. Anne Twomey interprets the crimes, agents, and killer in emotionally disconnected tones that chill the listener with the callousness of criminals. Using vocal depth and variations, Twomey gives Quinn and her partner, Eric Twain, more rounded personalities. As the pieces slowly fall into place, the pace of Mills's story picks up, and Twomey's performance becomes more involved with its horror. M.B.K.
