When Lorina joined an archaeological reality show at Ainslie Castle, she didn't expect to fall for the baron's brother, Gunner. Narrators Saskia Maarleveld and Brian Hutchison alternate between Lorina and Gunner's points of view, succeeding equally well with MacAlister's playful romantic mystery. Maarleveld's narration expresses Lorina's worry over her faked photojournalist credentials and her unwilling attraction to Gunner. She also spotlights the irony between Lorina's wild thoughts and sensible actions. Hutchison adopts a baronial British accent for Gunner's casual, upper-class demeanor. The playful sternness in his dialogue with his daughter, Cressida, is charming. His tongue-in-cheek manner ensures that MacAlister's story leans toward light romance despite some darker subplots. Maarleveld and Hutchison balance MacAlister's wacky and heartfelt story elements, making her characters ring true. C.A. © AudioFile 2015, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPTEMBER 2015]
