Matt McCarthy offers an engaging narration of his reflections on his first year as a medical intern. He traces his progression from a wide-eyed and, at times, ignorant beginner to a "real" doctor who begins to understand the art of medicine. His delivery is animated and conversational, a style that reflects the content. His occasional coarse language may put off a few listeners, especially as the words sound stronger when heard than when read. But his emotional bond with some of his patients rings true. Overall, he presents an enlightening story in an intensely personal and occasionally humorous way. R.C.G. © AudioFile 2015, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2015]
