Like any subject worthy of a biography, Ty Cobb was a complex soul whose life deserves the long, hard look afforded by the author. Narrator Malcolm Hillgartner carries the story well, bringing an even-keeled scrutiny to the multilayered Cobb, a Georgia native whom Hillgartner endows with a subtle Southern accent. Leerhsen delves into the life of the greatest player who ever graced a baseball diamond with as little bias as possible. He spends a good amount of time attacking previous biographical research on Cobb, sections where the author's anger is reflected in the narrator's incredulous tones. This should be considered the definitive look at Cobb. M.B. © AudioFile 2015, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPTEMBER 2015]
