A MATCH FOR MARCUS CYNSTER

When Niniver becomes the lady of the Clan Carrick, she must capably handle the business of the estate while, at the same time, fending off the aggressive advances of men who will go to any length to become her husband. Narrator Matthew Brenher's restrained tone conveys the façade of unruffled calm that hides Niniver's true emotions, especially the fear that ultimately drives her to seek assistance from Marcus Cynster--her neighbor and nemesis. The characters' roguish intentions or fierce loyalty to Niniver are captured by Brenher's delightful range of rich accents and tones, which also create easy character distinction. Brehner's portrayal of Marcus's deep voice and gentle steadiness brings out the man's sexy blend of chivalry and masculinity, adding to the seductiveness of this historical romance. M.F.
