Ann Marie Lee's calm narration soothes the listener through the disturbing opening of this audiobook. Morgan Prager, psychology student and dog lover, returns to her apartment to find her fiancé, Bennett, torn to pieces, apparently by her own dogs. Lee's voice remains measured throughout, as further disturbing revelations follow. Bennett was not who he said he was, and details of more murders emerge. Morgan's quest to find answers is set against the backdrop of the legal system's treatment of dogs believed to be dangerous. The story's appeal to dog lovers doesn't counterbalance its overall miserable content. Lee does her best to keep the listener engaged, but the last hour or so makes her task a trying one.
