Narrator Susie Riddell envelops young listeners in a British mystery as she gives voice to a myriad of characters, children and adults. When young Tabitha Crum receives an invitation to attend a weekend at Hollingsworth Hall, the home of Countess Camilla DeMoss, she joins select other children—one of whom will be determined to be the grandchild of the Countess, and will inherit one thousand pounds. In the narrator role, Riddell exhibits perfect elocution and an unflagging pace as she serves up the story with a gentle British accent. When some of the children disappear, Tabitha and her pet mouse, Pemberley, investigate mysterious passages, question the motives of suspicious servants, hear unsettling noises, and befriend her eclectic companions to find out what’s really going on.
