The story of this lusty gentleman's plain but feisty German bride reveals a byzantine labyrinth of plots, assignations, and scandal that overshadowed the madness of George III and kept the fascinated country gossipping with pity and/or scorn. Fraser's meticulous research receives spirited rendering by Donada Peters. Both educated and talented, she is perfectly suited to the voices of these times. Her accents are marvelous and, without intruding on the text, she enlivens the characters, adding to the pathos of a queen spurned and an egocentric husband determined to be rid of her. S.B.S.
