Lorelei King’s narration captures three women’s complicated road to romance filled with misunderstandings, cross-purposes, and thwarted efforts at love. Though possibly due to the novel’s formulaic story, King’s introductory narration is somewhat uneven, offering a big range between too little and then too much modulation. However, she deftly delivers the dialogue with smooth, clear segues and character voices. Her change in tone captures innkeeper Jo Marie’s awareness that she’s no longer grieving her husband’s death and is slowly falling in love with Mark, her handyman. With equal skill, King captures the nuances of Coco and Katie’s contrasting situations, revealing brashness as Coco settles the score with an old flame and resilience as Katie tries to make amends with the man whose heart she broke.
