THE MOOR

by | Read by Jenny Sterlin

Mystery & Suspense • 10.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1998

King's fourth novel, about the exploits of young Mary Russell and her husband, Sherlock Holmes, is set in Dartmoor, the site of Holmes's famous Baskerville case in the 1920s. Russell and Holmes are summoned to the moor by the Reverend Sabine Gehring-Gould, a nonfictional nonagenarian, "parson, squire, hymn writer, antiquarian, and folklorist." He asks the duo to solve the mysterious murder of a local tin miner and the sightings of a ghostly coach and hound. Jenny Sterling's crisp British accent effectively brings Russell's wry, intelligent, and intrepid character to life. Sterling easily makes the transitions between these diverse characters, allowing the listener to follow the narrative with alacrity. B.J.L.
