THE GREAT ZOO OF CHINA

Reilly's newest thriller pits a resourceful American reptile specialist against the might of China and a race of vicious dragons--yes, dragons. Rich Orlow is an excellent narrator, and Reilly provides him nonstop action with a cinematic flair. Although very violent, the story is neither sadistic nor ghoulish. Orlow's confident tenor is clear and well paced. He effects the many character voices without annoying caricature, which might have been a real temptation for a cast that includes evil Chinese party officials, mad scientists, and super-competent American agents. Although the salt-water crocodiles that figure in the plot connect Reilly with his native Australia, his heart is squarely in L.A. F.C. © AudioFile 2016, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2016]
